Epic India is pleased to announce the Epic India Contest. Open to all writers, no matter what their nationality, the winner of the Epic India Contest will be the contributor who in the eyes of Ashok Banker and myself has contributed the best body of work reflecting the vitality of Indian history and culture. At the end of each three-month period the writer who has contributed the best combination of quantity and quality will be selected the winner.
There is no entry form to complete or application to submit. If you want to be considered for the Epic India Contest it’s very simple: Write, and then write some more. You can write a series of articles that tie into each other, or they can all be on separate topics – it doesn’t matter. Just write.
The first prize period ends June 30th 2007 with the prize being announced at the end of the following month (July 2007) For each quarter, or three-month period, we will follow the same pattern. So the next deadline is Sept.2007 and the last of the year is Dec.2007.
The prize is no small potatoes either, as the winner will win the equivalent of US$300.00 as a gift certificate to either the Amazon of their choice or FabMall. If the writer is an Indian resident, then he or she may opt to receive a cheque for the Indian Rupee equivalent of US $300.
Ashok Banker has frequently espoused his ambition to retell all the classics of Epic Indian literature through a multitude of genres. Now it’s your turn to show your passion and talent for the same! All you have to do is write articles that either comment on or draws upon Indian culture, history, or mythology. They can be an essay, a poem, a piece of fiction, an original painting or photograph, or even a short film. All contributions must be submitted online, either as a scanned attachment or a Word file.
Winning contributions become the property of Epic India for a year’s time, and selected items from among them will be compiled into a book form. Those authors who have items published in the secondary format will be properly compensated for their work and in turn will agree to surrender all rights to Epic India. At the end of the year we will also be selecting an Epic India author of the year and he or she will receive an as yet unspecified amount in recognition of their efforts.
Remember you don’t have to be Indian to participate; it’s just as easy to find out information if you’re an Indian or not an Indian. Write about India from your point of view and what it looks like from where you are. Find out what it really is like and compare that with what you thought?
IMPORTANT Articles about Ashok Banker and his writings will not be counted towards the contest.
