City Lights
G. Harikrishnan
26 December 2007, 14:38A day stuffed with emptiness:
Word-spinning
in casinos of learning.
Crowded fairs,
Smoky roads,
Swarming pavements.
Scattered bodies
in the green Square
Watched over
by the mercury tower.
Yellow lamps
around the lake
Light up the city dusk.
The lifeless sky
composed of
vapours of our vacant souls
Recedes
beyond the concrete contours
in grey silence….
The city, the lost love,
Stares at you
with frigid eyes.
The streets without past
Run through you
in obscene haste.
Have you ever awaited here
A beloved one in awe ?
Have you ever walked these streets
Hand in hand with friends ?
May be
in dreams lost….
In the flood of visuals
Let’s float
without memories.
